Brief Bio:
Eric Ziolek is a composer and pianist who has taught at Grand Valley State University and the University of Iowa, where he was also Musical Director of the Center for New Music. His works are published by American Composers Editions, Lingua Press, and the TAP Music. He joined the faculty of Cleveland State University in 1992. Dr. Ziolek served as Chair of the Department of Music from 2001-2012.  He currently serves as Associate Dean in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.

Creative and Activities:
Active as a composer and pianist. Has written works for large and small ensembles. Recent works include a commission for Verb Ballets and a two-movement work for flutist Sean Gabriel and Codes for solo clarinet premiered in a TEDx talk entitled "Cooking Up Some Music and Dance."

As a collaborative pianist has performed over 300 recitals and has appeared on recordings with the Cleveland Chamber Symphony, Venner, trumpeter David Greenhoe. He has recorded music of Dan Rager and Nancy Van de Vate.
 
Research Interests:
Interdisciplinary connection between music and the humanities. Teaches an honors course called "The Performing Arts in Cleveland" in which students attend various cultural events after reading original sources and studying the social, political,  and artistic context for each work.
 
Teaching Areas:
Teaches courses in musicianship,  theory, music appreciation, interdisciplinary connections in an honors course entitled The Performing Arts in Cleveland, composition, orchestration, counterpoint.
