Brief Bio:
Georgia J. Anetzberger, Ph.D., ACSW, LISW is Assistant Professor in the Health Care Administration Program at Cleveland State University, a consultant in private practice, and a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America.  She received her bachelors degree in social work from The Ohio State University and masters degrees in both anthropology and social work and her doctorate in social welfare from Case Western Reserve University.  

Dr. Anetzberger has been active in the field of aging and human services for over thirty years as a planner, administrator, and educator.  Past employment includes serving as Vice President for Community Services at The Benjamin Rose Institute, Director of the Western Reserve Geriatric Education Center, Executive Director of the Western Reserve Area Agency of Aging, and Senior Planning Associate at the Federation for Community Planning, all located in Cleveland, Ohio.  In 1999 the Ohio Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers named her State Social Worker of the Year.    

Dr. Anetzbergers special interest and expertise is the area of elder abuse, in which she conducted pioneering research on physically abusing perpetrators.  She is Editor of the Journal of Elder Abuse & Neglect and Vice President of the National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse. Dr. Anetzberger has served on elder abuse research panels for the National Institute on Aging and National Area Resource Center on Elder Abuse and was a delegate to the National Policy Summit on Elder Abuse.  She also is the recipient of the 2005 Rosalie Wolf Memorial Elder Abuse Prevention AwardNational Category.

Dr. Anetzberger has authored more than forty scholarly publications, including articles in such journals as The Gerontologist, Journal of Cross-Cultural Gerontology, Violence Against Women, Generations, and Journal of Interpersonal Violence.  Her two books are The Etiology of Elder Abuse by Adult Offspring and The Clinical Management of Elder Abuse.  She lectures both nationally and locally on such topics as elder abuse and protective interventions, community-based services, aging-related public policy, and ethical issues in personal safety.  Dr. Anetzberger is active in numerous community organizations, including serving as an officer or member of the Boards of Directors for the Ohio Association of Gerontology and Education, Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging, Hospice and Palliative Care Partners of Ohio, VNA of Mid-Ohio, and RSVP of Greater Cleveland.  Ohio Governor Robert Taft appointed her as a delegate to the 2005 White House Conference on Aging.  In 2006 she received the Dr. Arnold L. Heller Memorial Award, bestowed annually to an individual or organization in northern Ohio who has made outstanding contributions to the fields of gerontology or geriatric medicine.
