Brief Bio:
Dr. Julia Phillips is Professor and Director of Doctoral Studies for the Urban Education Ph.D. program in the Levin College of Public Affairs and Education. She is also Director of Training for the APA-accredited Counseling Psychology specialization of the Ph.D. program in Urban Education. At CSU, she serves as Chair of the Doctoral Studies Committee, and Co-Chair of the Dean's Diversity Council. She received her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from The Ohio State University in 1992. She is a licensed psychologist in the State of Ohio and worked in university counseling centers for two decades prior to joining the faculty at Cleveland State University. In her previous position, she was the training director of an APA-accredited psychology internship at The University of Akron Counseling Center for over 10 years. She is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and has been active in leadership activities with APA Division 17 (Society of Counseling Psychology) and the Council of Counseling Psychology Training Programs. Most recently, she served six years as Chair of the Counseling Psychology Specialty Council.

Dr. Phillips has scholarly interests in professional issues in psychology, clinical supervision and training, research productivity of psychologists and psychology trainees, leadership training in professional organizations, college student development, and diversity, equity, and inclusion with a focus on gender and sexual minorities.
