Brief Bio:
Dr. Vida Lock has been associated with Cleveland State University for over thirty years.
Licensed as a registered nurse since 1975 by the Ohio Board of Nursing, she also holds national certification in Nursing Professional Development through the American Nurses Credentialing Center of the American Nurses Association.

Under her leadership, the School of Nursing completed a successful national accreditation, increased enrollment by over 80%, initiated a PhD specialization in Nursing Education within the Urban Education Program, conceptualized new state-of-the-art learning rooms including a critical care simulation teaching room, and moved to its new free-standing status.

For 22 years, Vida Lock was the Director of Continuing Education Programs for Nursing and Health Professions in CSU's Division of Continuing Education.  In this position, she was responsible for identifying the professional educational needs of the community and then designing and overseeing a comprehensive group of programs to meet those needs.  She obtained and maintained professional approvals from licensing boards and professional associations for various healthcare disciplines including nursing, counseling, social work, psychology, and nursing home administration.  Through her numerous community, professional and organizational contacts, she was able to assess changing needs of health professionals as well as hire the most qualified faculty to teach in the Nursing and Health Professions Program.  This Program, as is the case for all Programs in the Division of Continuing Education, needed to operate on a self supporting basis.

Dr. Lock conceived and initiated the Patient Advocacy Certificate Program (PACP), a series of ten online courses developed on the foundation of the Patient Advocate Competencies identified by the Society for Healthcare Consumer Advocacy, a membership group of the American Hospital Association.  First offered by Cleveland State University in 2004, the PACP has already enrolled hundreds of individuals throughout the United States as well as several international students.

One of the Division's largest and most popular courses was and remains the Nursing Refresher Course.  This intensive course involves both classroom and clinical components and is offered with the cooperation of hospitals in the community.  This intensive course not only assists in updating nurses who have been away from active practice, but it also helps ease the nursing shortage as they return to their profession.  Vida Lock was a faculty member and coordinator of this program for many years.

Prior to first teaching in and then being the Director of CSU's Nursing and Health Care Professions Program, Vida Lock held a number of positions in local hospitals, including Director of Nursing Staff Development, IV Therapist, and Labor and Delivery RN.
