Brief Bio:
Dr. Beasley is a former public school teacher who coordinated the Educational Technology graduate program at Cleveland State University from 1989 until 2005. He continues to teach educational technology courses, and is also the director of the Center for Teaching Excellence at Cleveland State, where he is charged with assisting other faculty in improving their teaching skills. Dr. Beasley's publications and conference presentations focus on issues related to distance education, both in web-based and interactive video distance learning (IVDL) formats.
 
Honors and Awards:
2003: University Faculty Merit Award in Teaching, Cleveland State University.

1998: Distinguished Faculty Award for Teaching, Cleveland State University.  

1997: Faculty Merit Bonus based on meritorious performance in the area of research and creative activity, Cleveland State University

1982 (22 October) : J.C. Gowan Scholarship for Outstanding Graduate Studies in Research. Awarded by the National Association for Gifted Children for dissertation research.
 
Research Interests:
Dr. Beasley's recent work has focused on methods for making distance learning materials and activities more accessible for a wider variety of students, and on ways to reduce transactional distance through the use technology.

Beasley, W.A. (2001) Factors and Conditions which Enhance the Effectiveness of Distance Learning Instruction in a College Environment. Research proposal to the Research Center for Educational Technology at Kent State University. $86, 714; funded.

Beasley, W.A. (Summer, 1999) Distance and Distributed Learning Grant. Digital Media Professional Development Program . Proposal to the Ohio Board of Regents. Principal College of Education contact for joint Education/Arts & Sciences/ public TV venture.  $339,800; funded. Resulted in creation of a new distance education facility at CSU (MC 207), fully equipped with desktop computers, as well as a set of laptop computers for use in remote distance education sites.

Beasley, W.A. (1998, February)  Online Virtual Reality Panoramas as Student Projects.  Composite proposal, CSU Center for Teaching Excellence (funded) and CSU College of Education (funded). Principal investigator. $650. Resulted in faculty and student production of QTVR demonstrations.

Beasley, W.A. (1994, August) Linking the Comer Schools to the Online World: Telecommunications in a Public School Context. Funded by the Rockefeller Foundation. Principal investigator. Total project budget: $235,706 ($169,975 received from the Rockefeller Foundation). Provided equipment, connectivity, training, support, and central resource bank for linking four Cleveland City Schools to the Internet to enhance communication and curriculum delivery. Two year project, extended by the foundation into third (96-97) and fourth (97-98) years.

Proposal to Establish a CU-SeeMe Reflector Site.  Composite proposal, jointly funded by: CSU Center for Teaching Excellence, CSU College of Education, and the Ohio SchoolNet project, 1997. Principal investigator; $1125; funded. Resulted in functioning reflector site used by area educators.

Creating Digital Screen-Based Walkthroughs for Basic Computer Competencies.  CSU Center for Teaching Excellence, 1997. Principal investigator.  $485; funded. Resulted in pilot production of instructional materials.

Delivering Basic Internet Skills Online.  CSU Dean's grant for technology innovation in instruction, 1996-97.  Principal investigator. $1990; funded. Resulted in revision of course content for Computer Uses course sequence.

Course development support: upgrade of hardware cost simulation for active World Wide Web use.  COE course development support grant, 1996. $300; funded; resulted in online publication listed as Beasley & Morgado, 1996.
