Brief Bio:
Jennifer Visocky O'Grady is an advocate for design. She comes to that role with experience: years in the classroom, as a volunteer for the design and creative communities both locally and nationally, and as an award-winning practitioner. Jennifer is interested in communicating the value of design, both internally to the design industry, and externally to the broader public. She believes that practitioners can thrive by constantly learning, adapting, and forecasting.

As a co-founder, and principal of Enspace Inc., Jennifer's design work was recognized by HOW Magazine, Print Magazine, the University & College Designers Association (UCDA), and the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), and has been featured in numerous books.

Jennifer has been invited to guest lecture, present and jury competitions across the country, notably as a judge for HOW Magazine's International Design Annual, and as a invited presenter at multiple HOW Design Conferences (one of the largest annual design conferences in the United States), and DesignThinkers Conferences (the largest annual design conference in Canada).

Jennifer is an active member of civic and professional communities. She has served on the AIGA national board of directors, and has been recognized with a fellow award from AIGA Cleveland. AIGA is the professional association for design, with more than 70 chapters and 25,000 members nation-wide, and a rich 100+ year history. She is also on the advisory board of AIGA Cleveland, and served as that chapter's board president from 2005 to 2006. She has served on the advisory board for HOW Brands, a prominent design industry magazine, book publisher and conference organizer; and consults with the Registered Graphic Designers (RGD) of Ontario, a Canadian accrediting body and professional organization, where she has helped craft questions for the RGD exam and authored best practices for print design focused on accessibility issues. She has also been recognized by North East Ohio's Inside Business Magazine for her past service as the chair of the City Club of Cleveland's New Leaders.

Jennifer is the co-author of four books, Design Currency, The Information Design Handbook, and A Designer's Research Manual first and second editions (which is suggested preparatory reading for the Canadian RGD exam, and has sold more than 15,000 copies internationally). All of her books have been co-authored with her husband and creative partner, Ken Visocky O'Grady, who is a professor in Visual Communication Design at Kent State University.

Jennifer has been teaching at Cleveland State University since the spring of 1999. In addition to her academic duties, which include curricular development, internship supervision and advising for design students, she is founder of the CSU AIGA Student Group, has been elected to serve multiple terms on the Faculty Senate, served as Art Department chair from 2011 to 2015, and is currently the faculty mentoring fellow.
