Brief Bio:
Mark Holtzblatt is a Professor of Accounting at Cleveland State University in the Monte Ahuja College of Business, teaching International Accounting courses. Dr. Holtzblatt holds certifications in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). He served on the Editorial Review Boards of two leading global accounting education journals: Issues in Accounting Education, an A-ranked journal published by the American Accounting Association (AAA), and the Journal of Accounting Education (Elsevier). In addition, he recently served 3-year terms in research leadership positions on the AAA's Publications Committee which oversees all 17 AAA journals, and as Chair of the Steering Committee of the AAA's A-ranked Issues in Accounting Education. Since September, 2022 he has been a member of the Sustainable Business Management Committee (SBM) of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) and serves as the co-leader of the Academic working group of the SBM committee. The IMA has 140,000 global members.

Recently, Dr. Holtzblatt was invited by KCA University in Nairobi, Kenya to be the keynote speaker at the Interdisciplinary Conference on Innovations & Sustainability, October 2022. In addition, Dr. Holtzblatt was a Visiting Scholar and Professor of Accounting at the China University of Petroleum (UPC) in Qingdao, China.

Dr. Holtzblatt is the recipient of 12 national and international awards for research, innovation, and teaching, including: the 2023 IMA IECJ Sustainability/DEI Case Writing Competition Award, 2021 AICPA Mark Chain/FSA Innovation in Graduate Teaching Award, co-sponsored by Grant Thornton and the Federation of Schools of Accountancy (FSA); the 2021 AAA Forensic Accounting Section Best Teaching Innovation Award; the 2017 Outstanding Instructional Contribution Award, Honorable Mention, AAA Teaching, Learning and Curriculum Section; the 2016 ATA/Deloitte Teaching Innovation Award, sponsored by the American Taxation Association (ATA) and the Deloitte Foundation; the 2016 Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) Lybrand Competition Certificate of Merit; and the 2015 Outstanding Accounting Education Research Award from the AAA Teaching, Learning and Curriculum Section and the Ernst & Young Foundation. He is also the recipient of the 2011 AAA Innovation in Accounting Education Award sponsored by EY, the 2010 Howard Teall Innovation in Accounting Education Award from the Canadian Academic Accounting Association, and received honorable mention three times (2013, 2012, and 2009) for the AICPA Mark Chain/FSA Innovation in Graduate Teaching Award.

His latest articles have been published in: Issues in Accounting Education (AAA); Journal of Emerging Technologies in Accounting (AAA); Strategic Finance (IMA); Management Accounting Quarterly (IMA); The Journal of Accounting Education (Elsevier); International Tax Journal (CCH); Advances in Accounting Education: Teaching and Curriculum Innovations (Emerald); Internal Auditor (IIA); Business Economics (Palgrave Macmillan); The CPA Journal (NYSSCPA); and Accounting Education: An International Journal (IAAER).

In addition, he has presented 43 peer-reviewed papers and participated on 19 panel sessions in 35 national and international conferences, and is featured numerous times in the Monte Ahuja College of Business Faculty Points of Pride, CSU Research Newsletters, and a CSU Researcher Video.

Dr. Holtzblatt's work has been supported by grants from the Purdue University Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) to research the use of technology in teaching IFRS. He was also recipient of a 2014 grant from the CSU Center for Teaching Excellence to implement XBRL into the International Accounting Course, and a 2022-2023 Grant for Integrating Analytics in the College of Business.

Creative and Activities:
Lead co-author of the ethics case for the February 27,2021 Cleveland State 4th Annual Intercollegiate Ethics Case Competition, which involved student teams and faculty advisers from five Ohio universities. The competition was organized by the CSU student chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the honorary accounting society, and funded by the Institute of Internal Auditors.

Lead co-author of the ethics case for the March 2,2019 Cleveland State 2nd Annual Intercollegiate Ethics Case Competition, which involved student teams and faculty advisers from four Ohio universities. The competition was organized by the CSU student chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the honorary accounting society, and funded by the Institute of Internal Auditors.

Lead co-author of the ethics case for the April 14,2018 Inaugural Cleveland State Intercollegiate Ethics Case Competition, which involved student teams and faculty advisers from six Ohio universities. The competition was organized by the CSU student chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the honorary accounting society, and funded by the global accounting firm of Grant Thornton.

Co-innovator of the IFRS Student Video Competition among universities. The Pilot
Program was accomplished during the Fall Semester of 2009 between Roosevelt University and San Diego State University showcasing a series of High Definition IFRS student-produced videos which involved interviews with IFRS experts located in six different countries. Developed and implemented a pilot 12 week, 36 contact hour IFRS accounting course for the Summer/2009. The course was entitled: Global Accounting: The IASB and IFRS and was taught separately at the graduate and undergraduate levels. This course was subsequently offered in the Fall/2009 at the graduate level and in the Spring/2010 semester at the undergraduate level. The course design was supported by a grant from PricewaterhouseCoopers(PwC).
