Brief Bio:
Sarah Rutherford is an Associate Professor of Design at Cleveland State University and the President Emeritus of AIGA Cleveland. Her research explores design pedagogy, learning retention, and collaborative work strategies. She holds a Master of Fine Arts from the School of Visual Communication Design at Kent State University. A Missouri native, Sarah earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communications and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Truman State University. She was named a 2020 Responsible Designer to Watch by GDUSA and has twice participated in the Design Incubation Fellowship program, in 2018 and 2020

A passionate advocate for voter engagement, Sarah serves on the national committee for the AIGA Design for Democracy initiative. She is the co-creator of Voter Engagement in the Design Classroom: A Nationwide Celebration of Student Work. Sarah was the writer for the July 2016 Get Out the Vote poster exhibition at the Galleries at CSU, a project named as a Midwest regional winner in the 2017 Print Regional Design Annual. She was also a project leader for the AIGA Cleveland Get Out the Vote Design + Community video series.
