Brief Bio:
Sarah Rutherford is an Associate Professor of Design at Cleveland State University and a former President of AIGA Cleveland. She researches, writes, and speaks about pedagogy and learning in higher education. She holds a Master of Fine Arts from the School of Visual Communication Design at Kent State University. A Missouri native, Sarah earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communications and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Truman State University. Sarah was named a 2020 Responsible Designer to Watch by GDUSA and has twice participated in the Design Incubation Fellowship program. Her creative work has been recognized by HOW magazine.

A passionate advocate for voter engagement, Sarah serves on the national committee for the AIGA Design for Democracy initiative and devotes classroom projects, writing, and professional service to get out the vote efforts. She is co-creator of Voter Engagement in the Design Classroom and has participated in AIGA voter engagement initiatives including the AIGA Cleveland Get Out the Vote Design + Community video series and the July 2016 Get Out the Vote poster exhibition, a project recognized in the Print Regional Design Annual.
