Bone identification requested by Wendy Hastings, Sullivan County Coroner, Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The bone in question was found in Loyalsock Creek with some abandoned human clothing also found nearby. The items were discovered by a dentist and a medical student who thought the bone might be a human arm or forearm bone. My analysis indicated the bone to be a tibia of a modern white tail deer (Odocoileus virginianus). The proximal end of the bone was heavily damaged by scavengers, but the distal arthrosis was intact and diagnostic as belonging to a white tail deer. Report requested May 3, 2010 and submitted on May 4, 2010.
