I was appointed to serve on this two-year task force to examine the issue of informed consent in physical therapy. This task force’s charge is to “research current regulatory requirements; review the laws and rules of jurisdictions; and review literature of other professions for best practices regarding informed consent.” The work has involved two in-person meetings in Alexandria, as well as regular virtual meetings and individual work in between. Through this work, we will be providing recommendations to the Board of Directors as to how the Federation may be able to support jurisdictions across the country in developing sound language and practices surrounding informed consent. We are currently developing a resource guide and some educational materials for states to use.
