Description
Co-founder and leader of the Northeast Ohio New Literacies Collective. I launched this group with Wililam Kist, Associate Professor of English Education at Kent State, in the Spring of 2013. The group has been conceptualized as a group of scholars and practitioners in the Northeast Ohio area who have a demonstrated commitment to and engagement with new literacies as they relate to teaching and learning. By design, the group meets every two-three months and includes scholars from CSU, Kent State, and The University of Akron. Several members of the group presented at the 2013 Annual Reading Conference. Another small group of members submitted and delivered a symposium at the annual meeting of the Literacy Research Association. This group continues to meet in year two. We hope to continue to extend the scholarship and research conducted by group members and collaborate around ways of teaching digital literacies to pre-service and in-service teachers in meaningful and sustainable ways. Future collaborations could include additional presentations, professional development, new course development, articles, and/or a book. This year I arranged a half-day visit to MC2STEM for members of the group and a subsequent meeting. Over the summer, Bill and I visited and met with the new Cleveland School of the Arts principal and discussed future collaborations with and possible professional development for the school community. This spring the group will meet to discuss work conducted in relationship to Digital Literacies this past academic year.| Period | 2016 |
