On May 1, I will serve as the outside examiner for the thesis defenses of two chemistry honors students at Oberlin College. My role entails reading the theses, asking questions of the students in an oral exam setting, and discussing with the students' advisors what grade of honors (Honors, High Honors, or Highest Honors) they should graduate with. Please note that the 4 hours from May 1, 2025 to April 30, 2026 listed in the first question in part B applies to reading theses in advance. On May 1, 2026, I will spend another 3.5 hours in the honors exam and deliberation process.
