President of the AMS-Allegheny Chapter

Description

I co-organized a joint two-day conference with the AMS Mid-Atlantic and AMS Capital Chapters at University of Delaware in September 2018 and a regular one-day chapter conference at Case Western Reserve University in April 2019. The chapter organizes two meetings per year. Each of these conferences is one day long and comprises of eight papers. In the past, I have organized two chapter meetings at CSU, one in the Spring semester of 2014 and one last Spring. From 2015 until Summer 2017, I was the Chair of the Program Committee. Since Fall 2017, I am the President of the Chapter for a two-year term. I am responsible for supervising the Chair of the Program Committee, the Secretary-Treasurer and the two Student Representatives. I am also in charge of securing future venues, liaison with the administration of the national AMS, prepare and run the business meetings, implement new guidelines given by the national AMS and present a vision for the future of the Chapter. In this regard, we are currently planning for Fall a two-day joint conference with the Capital Chapter (Washington DC, Virginia, Maryland). One of the highpoints will be the invitation of a leading scholar in the field as keynote speaker. My first task as president was the labor-intensive work of revising thoroughly the bylaws, which were out-of-date. The revised bylaws passed the plenum of the Chapter at the last Fall meeting. In addition, last year, I initiated the prize for best student paper, which was awarded last Spring at CSU for the first time. The West Virginia University Press sponsors the prize with $250.
