Biography

CRAIG FOLTIN is an Associate Professor of Accounting at the Monte Ahuja College of Business at Cleveland State University.  He has presented at numerous professional meetings and has published 43 papers in some of America’s top accounting journals – most recently in Issues in Accounting Education, Accounting History, Research in Accounting Regulation, CPA Journal, Accounting Historians Journal, and Strategic Financial Management.  He also serves on the Editorial Board for the CPA Journal.  In addition, he has participated as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Texas at Austin and as a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Montana. 

 Dr. Foltin has won numerous awards for his teaching, research, and service including; the Best Teaching Innovation Award from the American Accounting Association, the President’s Award from Cuyahoga Community College, the Golden Apple Teaching Award from Cleveland State, the Humanitarian Award from the Black American Council, Outstanding CSU Accounting Alumnus of the Year from the Beta Alpha Psi, CFO of the Year from Crain’s Cleveland Business, and the Most Significant Contribution to the Literature of the Profession from the Association of Government Accountants. 

Prior to Cleveland State University, Dr. Foltin held the position of Provost and Executive Vice President at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C).  Before serving as Provost, Dr. Foltin served as the Executive Vice President of Administration and Finance and Treasurer for Tri-C.  He was also a two-term elected Mayor of the City of Lorain.

 A lifelong Northeast Ohio resident, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Ohio State University before earning his MBA and Doctor of Business Administration from Cleveland State University.  Dr. Foltin is a CPA and a Certified Government Financial Manager.  He resides in Lorain with his wife, Karen, and their daughters Lena and Eleanor.

Financial Accounting, Accounting Regulation, Governance, Ethics, Sustainability Accounting, XBRL, Accounting History, and Governmental Accounting. His 18 publications in top 40 accounting journals rank in the top 2% in the Country
