Biography

Guowei Jian, Professor of Organizational Communication, has been with Cleveland State University since 2003. 

Research interests

Dr. Jian's current programs of research are in the areas of organizational communication, leadership communication, paradox theories, and risk. Specifically, his research examines the process of communication in doing leadership, organizing risk, managing organizational change, and implementing and adopting communication technologies. His recent article with Gail Fairhurst on organizational paradox and risk received the Outstanding Article Award from the National Communication Association (Organizational Communication Division). He is the lead editor of the Routledge Handbook of Organizational Leadership Communication. In addition to his core areas of research, Dr. Jian also studies veteran career transitions, civic engagement, and contributes to interdisciplinary projects. His research appears in leading national and international publications and peer-reviewed scholarly journals, such as Communication Research, Communication Theory, Communication Monographs, Organization Studies, Human Relations, Organization, Management Communication Quarterly, Corporate Communication, and International Journal of Business Communication, and De Gruyter’s Handbook on Organizational Communication Theory and Research among others. He is currently Associate Editor at Human Relations and previously served as Associate Editor at Management Communication Quarterly for four years. He has also served on the editorial board of several scholarly journals, including Human Relations, Management Communication Quarterly, Journal of Applied Communication Research, and Western Journal of Communication.
