Biography
Jennifer Kappus is a Legal Writing Professor at CSU|LAW and brings a variety of experiences in the legal and regulatory compliance fields.
Prior to joining CSU|LAW as a Visiting Legal Writing Professor in 2023, Professor Kappus most recently spent five years as a Compliance Officer at KeyBank, focusing on interactions with government officials, ethics, and high-impact regulatory issues facing the financial services industry. She began her legal career as a litigation associate at Tucker Ellis LLP and then worked as a judicial attorney with Justice Terrence O’Donnell at the Ohio Supreme Court.
Effective legal writing was a focal point of Kappus’ work as a judicial attorney and an associate with Tucker Ellis. She brought these writing and analytical skills to her role as a compliance officer with KeyBank, which led to collaborating with directors and executives on various projects across Key. Drawing upon lessons learned and best practices in the legal and corporate settings, Professor Kappus brings a practical approach to teaching legal writing and prepares students for success in both traditional and non-traditional careers.
Professor Kappus graduated magna cum laude and Order of the Coif from Case Western Reserve School of Law where she served on the Case Western Reserve Law Review as the Executive Symposium Editor. She graduated summa cum laude with High Honors in History and Government from the College of William and Mary and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, being awarded the Phi Beta Kappa Departmental Award in Government.
A Cleveland native, Professor Kappus enjoys spending time with her family on Lake Erie, in the Cleveland Metroparks, and supporting her children in their various activities.
