Biography

Mehdi Rahmati is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cleveland State University, where he has been a faculty member since 2020. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Rutgers University, and his M.S. and B.S. degrees from Iran University of Science and Technology and Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, respectively.

Dr. Rahmati’s research focuses on wireless communications, underwater networks, and autonomous and connected systems. He has secured multiple competitive research grants from federal and state agencies as well as industry partners, including the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Ohio Department of Transportation, and Ford Motor Company. His work has been published extensively in leading peer-reviewed journals and premier international conferences.

His research contributions have been recognized with several prestigious honors, including the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society Young Professional Award (2022, 2023), the Best Paper Award at IEEE MASS 2017, the Best Demo Award at IEEE SECON 2019, First Prize in the IEEE Communications Society Student Competition (2019), and the Best Paper Runner-Up Award at ACM WUWNet 2015. He currently serves as Chair of the Underwater Acoustics Technology Committee of the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society.
