Biography

Dr. Mustafa Usta is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Cleveland State University, where he directs the Complex Flows and Advanced Transport Lab (CFTLAB). His research develops the transport physics of flow-responsive systems, spanning biological flows, mixing, membrane separation, and reactive surfaces across flow environments from physiological to high-speed, combining high-fidelity computation and scientific machine learning, with experimental collaborations across biomedical engineering, materials science, national laboratories, and industry partners. He holds a Ph.D. from Lehigh University and completed his postdoctoral training at Georgia Institute of Technology.

Teaching interests

Fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, thermodynamics, transport phenomena, computational fluid dynamics, numerical methods, scientific machine learning for engineers, and biological transport
