Teacher Preparedness for Refugee Education in Ohio: Exploratory Research and Survey Design

Project: Research

Grant Details

Description

The guidelines of the Diversity TRACTION grant, the mission of our CRIS center,
and the mission of CSU are perfectly aligned with our ongoing research, as well as the
research in this proposal. This research is at the intersection of education, social justice,
and quality of life. Findings would lead to enhanced pedagogy for teacher preparedness,
sharing of best practices, as well as opportunities for our partners in the public-school
districts to seek support for their needs. As a faculty in Teacher Education, Dr. Grace
Huang can directly impact the advancement of enhanced curriculum to address the
needs of this diverse and growing population of the region and in Ohio. My deep
expertise is also in the refugee crisis, with a number of publications in the area of survey
construct development. Dr. Huang and I have written a number of grant proposals for
this topic, and CSU’s office of research has also verbally committed to locating a
Research Assistant to support the secondary data collection and ongoing literature
review for this research. Our needs from the TRACTION grant would be for qualitative
exploratory research with teachers and survey development support from a student (as
will be outlined below in items #5 and #6).
