Abstract

I was approached by Mennonite Church USA and Mennonite Church Canada to submit original artwork for the new Mennonite hymnal, Voices Together, based on my previous work on diversity-related themes. Currently under revision, my composition is based on the biblical themes of death and resurrection. Only two Mennonite hymnals have been produced in the last 50 years; The Mennonite Hymnal was published in 1969 and Hymnal: A Worship Book was published in 1992. The new hymnal, which will include several hundred hymns and worship resources, is the seminal worship book for Mennonite churches across the United States and Canada. Voices Together will include only 12 illustrations by 12 different artists and will be published as a hardbound book by MennoMedia in 2020. Hymnal materials will also be made available through digital media.
