Abstract
In this presentation I argue that some of the reasons that young women do not become philosophy majors and eventually enter the profession include a lack of self-identification with philosophers. I argue that the face of philosophy is male: that of Plato, Aristotle, Aquinas, Marx, Neitzsche, Russell, Wittgenstein etc. I argue a multi-pronged approach to this problem: First, that the APA decline to accredit programs whose undergraduate courses exclude the contributions of women. Second, that the APA support the production and distribution of a series of 4 2-hour instructional DVDs presently in preparation by myself and a colleague from Montclair State University in NJ under the auspices of a professional society, the Society for the Study of Women Philosophers.
