Abstract
Emphasis is on the impact on students of the use of well chosen films for teaching culture to freshman students of Spanish. A survey answered by students before viewing and after viewing is the point of departure for the study. The paper includes historical background of the countries studied in the corresponding text chapters, as well as social, economic, and political circumstances, film content, film theory, and evidence of student's engagement in the subject matter.
