Abstract

http://www.cleveland.com/arts/index.ssf/2017/01/cleveland_foundation_cuba_trip.html The Cleveland Foundation-Creative Fusion-Cuba The Cleveland Foundation launched its Creative Fusion- international artist-in-residence program, over 10 years ago. The program partners international artists with Cleveland artists and arts organizations in cohorts to create new work, share their art together and see how arts and culture from other perspectives can shape the art that is created locally. In 2016-17 the Cleveland Foundation refreshed this program by launching a fall 2016 cohort to be located in a single community-Hingetown and a country specific cohort-Cuba-in spring 2017. TCF invited DANCECleveland to be a participant in the spring cohort along with, The Cleveland Institute of Art, CAN Journal, Kent State Urban Design Center, Verb Ballets and Cleveland Print Room. Each organization was invited to include a local artist or arts partner and DANCECleveland chose its long-time partner Lynn Deering, Chair of Dance at Cleveland State University. Our project, which will be funded by TCF, will bring Cuban dance company Malpaso to Cleveland for 2 performances (at least 1 of which will be offered free of charge to the community) and a week of teaching dance at CSU Summer Dance Intensive. CSU will also provide Malpaso with a dance studio for their use every afternoon so that they can begin creating a new work. TCF will also provide commissioning funding for a new work and fund the cohort’s travel to Cuba in January.
