Critical Partnership: Instructional Designer and Faculty

Research output: Contribution to conference › Paper

Abstract

In the process of writing a book chapter on the topic of effective course design for high enrollment online classes, this instructional designer and faculty member from Cleveland State University shifted their focus to studying the critical partnership between these two professional roles. In this session, this team will discuss their findings from the current literature, what other institutions and faculty/ID teams do to make this a success and will share their own personal growth and experience working together. From the very start of their eight-year partnership, this team focused their work on QM Standards, alignment and course certification as a guide to produce student-centered courses. Please join this team as they discuss effective ways to design and develop courses for higher student success with emphasis on learning outcomes, pedagogy, course alignment, and the potential value of the online learning environment itself to support a student-centered approach to online learning. In addition, this session looks beyond design to the outcomes and the case for continuous course improvement.
