Abstract
The damage that has been caused through attempts to change people's affectional orientation through the mental health field and faith-based organizations are reviewed. These programs, using psychological, behavioral, and/or faith-based interventions have been advertised as ways to alter someone's attractions. The empirical research regarding these sexual orientation change efforts (SOCE) indicate that they are ineffective and cause damage to clients. Authors review the ACA ethical code in relation to this topic; ethical treatment necessitates that SOCE strategies never be utilized with clients.
