Examining and Promoting Socially Just Practices with Everyday Language

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaper

Abstract

Though advocacy for social justice has recently been added in the ethical standards for the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP, 2020), such recognition for equitable practices does not always translate into effective service delivery. There are still major gaps in how school psychologists actively promote equity and create safe learning environments for all children through everyday practices such as language. Aligned with this year’s convention theme of “radical hope and authentic healing,” this presentation will discuss evidence and impacts of unintentionally harmful language that upholds status quo and oppressive practices in schools.
