"From Cannon-Fodder to Canon-Formation: How Do we Get There from Here?"

This is a revision of a paper presented at the American Philosophical Association in December, 2012. In it I examine the nature of canon-formation in academic disciplines, examine canonical compendia such as encyclopedias of philosophy to determine the extent to which women's contributions are represented, and examine the steps needed to achieve a more equitable representation of women philosophers' contributions to the discipline. This is an invited submission to the eminent philosophy journal Monist (founded 1888) for publication in 2015. Although invited, it is subject to blind peer review.
