Abstract

Fundamentals of Physics, Jearl Walker, John Wiley & Sons. 10E, completed Dec 2012, publication July 2013. In the US and Canada, surveys show that this is the number-one book in the market for calculus-based, introductory physics. There are at least 15 translations of various editions being used around the world. Latest translation: Persian. I have published 8 editions of Fundamentals or its overseas English version Principles. To date, the number of textbook copies sold in the US and Canada with Cleveland State University on the title page is over 1,100,000. I estimate that about 2,000,000 copies have been sold in other countries, in various languages. WileyPlus is the online service associated with the book and is available directly or through other web-delivery systems such as WebAssign. I have numbers only for the direct service: currently 30,000 students each semester. Within the service, the students read my book, work my problems, read my sample problems (about 500 sample problems), and watch my videos (minilectures, math reviews, sample problems, problem solutions --- about 1500 videos). Because of the recent switch by students from PCs to hand-held viewers such as iPads, during fall 2012, I converted all the videos from Flash format to mp4 format.
