Abstract
This ensemble work, created during the Dance Company course, was an exploration of the prolific works of Philip Glass. Ultimately, I chose works that seemed to captivate myself and the students and led me to implement music visualization as the primary compositional choice. In this context and in its simplest form, music visualization involves the translation of music into movement. This differs from other modes of inquiry as the focus is on the expression embedded in the music, rather than a specific theme and/or narrative. The music becomes the “story” and there are limitless possibilities of interpretation and potential abstraction. In this spirit, the decision to create a series of vignettes offered the means to express both individualized and connected ideas. I chose the title glassPoints primarily to capture the multifaceted nature of points of view and/or perception and to play on the idea of imagery associated with glass materials in terms of quality, function, sound, etc.
