Helping Student Teachers Find Relevance and Success in the edTPA

Abstract

This article provides resources and approaches that music teacher educators can use to assist student teachers in developing the skills and mindset of a master teacher during the process of completing the edTPA. Topics addressed include (a) Backward Design, (b) fostering student understanding, (c) Universal Design for Learning, (d) Academic Language (Zwiers, 2008), (e) musicianship-focused curriculum and assessment (Conway, 2015), and (f) addressing individual learning needs (Adamek & Darrow, 2010).
