Abstract
As part of my collective KDiehl Danceworks, I collaborated with Anne Kmieck, Mike McNamara, Jenna Hanlon, and Lisa Karlovsky for an improvisational performance during the opening reception at The Galleries at CSU. This collaborative project was in direct response to Anne Kmieck's work entitled Riparazioni, a multifaceted work exploring the lives of twelve historical female figures. As we entered into the creative process, we discussed her work from the various photos and artist statements we were provided, researched relevant historical material, and ultimately created a structured improvisation intended to create an additional layer to consider in interfacing with Kmieck's work. I located a quote from one of the twelve women and created folded cards with the quote that were given to the audience to offer another layer of meaning. The act of giving something to those attending the exhibition also created a path to connection...a brief physical interaction that allowed for a greater sense of embodied presence.
