I was invited through an adjudicated process to present this work that premiered in May 2016. While the work premiered in a festival in Rochester, NY, I had to change the cast so any time the dancers change, the work changes. This ongoing and unfolding process of a work allows for revisions and a deepening of intention. It is all part of the ephemeral nature of dance. The essence of this trio is space. I was interested in the weaving of internal and external space and how one influences the other. The reciprocal relationship between inner and outer can create a loop of repetitive patterns and pathways. And this loop can be challenging to alter. The work was created using images relative to the spaces we inhabit as well as the imagery of internal workings of objects i.e. clocks, pinball machines, computers, etc. As we explored the interplay between exerting energy into various spaces as well as being impacted by forces within those spaces, we circled back to the initial subject of inner connectivity and outer expressivity. Additionally, I presented this work during the CSU Spring Dance concert on March 31 and April 1st. This was the first time we were able to perform the work in a full proscenium space with a full lighting capacity. The change in space and lighting design definitely added a layer of artistic interest to the work.
