Interprofessional Education for Social Work Students: Findings from a Muli-year cohort study

This study sought to understand the experiences of social work students participating in an interprofessional simulation and how it would inform their future practice. This study used a non-random, purposive sample of 32 social work students from one Midwestern university. Post-seminar surveys were completed, and conventional content analysis used to analyze data. For each research question, three primary themes emerged: (i) benefits of IP collaboration; (ii) social work a “big part of the puzzle”; and (iii) “real life” learning; and: (i) communication; (ii) self- confidence; and (iii) knowledge gained. The results reveal the value of participation in interprofessional simulation activities for social work students, and emphasize the need for continued development and implementation of such activity into social work education.
