Iyare! Splendor and Tension in Benin's Palace Theatre

This is an exhibition catalogue of 240+ pages from a show I curated at the University of Pennsylvania's Penn Museum in 2008. I wrote the five chapter essays and some of the catalogue entries; students in my associated class wrote the other catalogue entries. We did not have funds for publication, so it never came out. I have published it as an on-demand book at Amazon. This is no vanity project--it includes information unavailable in published sources, based on my fourteen years of fieldwork, as well as specifics for the University of Pennsylvania's Benin collection, many of whose works have never been published. The Smithsonian's National Museum of African Art library has preordered it. I was invited to teach this supported curatorial seminar and curate the associated exhibition with catalogue
