Abstract
I delivered a presentation at a special session of the Numismatic Society of Mexico called specifically for the occasion. In it, I analyzed the very first banknotes issued in Mexico, demonstrating that they combine symbols of the British bank that issued them, the French regime under which they were released, and the country of Mexico in which they circulated. I further identified the source of the Mexican iconography and showed how the notes avoided using any emblems that might have stirred nationalist passions. A PDF copy is attached. The treatment is very scholarly and could be developed into a peer-reviewed publication. In Spanish.
