N2 - The article examines the prospects and challenges of digital collaboration in public history between institutions of higher learning in the Western world, and the developing world [Third World). More specifically, it examines how students and faculty in the Department of History at Cleveland State University, Cleveland, USA, and the Department of History and Archaeology, Maseno University, Kenya, collaborated in research, teaching, and learning within the context two research projects that the two institutions managed between 2014 and 2018. First, “Curating Kisumu: Adapting Mobile Humanities Interpretation in East Africa,” which ran from 2014 to 2017, and, second, “Curating East Africa: A Platform and Process for Location-based Storytelling in the Developing World,” which ran from 2017 to 2018. It examines the views and attitudes of students, faculty, our research partners at Maseno University, and the public in and around Kisumu, towards the two projects. It examines how views and attitudes towards the projects have changed over time. It is interested in the challenges and problems the projects faced, and how they were dealt with and how they were overcome. It offers lessons to students, faculty, and scholars in general on how to run and manage similar projects.
