“Managing Controversial Boundary Behaviors in Hospital Social Work” Sponsored by Bayada Nurses, Medical Service Company The Villa Camillus Columbia Station, Ohio November 3, 2010 Larry W. Foster, PhD, MSW Description: The workshop addresses controversial boundaries in hospital social work. Content includes theory and practice examples for clarifying the relationship between ethics and boundary behaviors. Controversial issues accompanying select boundary behaviors and implications of these for the professional use of self are illustrated utilizing case material. Workshop participants engage in reflection, reasoning, and the resolution of ethical dilemmas presented. Purpose: To present controversial boundary behaviors in hospital social work and discuss implications for professional use of self. Objectives: Understand the linkages between ethics and boundaries in hospital social work; Recognize controversial boundary behaviors and implications for professional use of self; Identify ways to enhance professional use of self in managing controversial boundaries in hospital social work.
