Abstract
“Managing Controversial Boundary Behaviors in Professional Settings” NASW Ethics Workshop March 25, 2011 Larry W. Foster, PhD, MSW Description: The workshop addresses controversial boundaries in professional settings. Content includes theory as well as practice examples for clarifying the relationship between ethics and boundary behaviors. Controversial issues accompanying select boundary behaviors and implications of these for the professional use of self are illustrated utilizing case material. Workshop participants will engage in the process of ethical decision-making, including reflection, reasoning, and the resolution of ethical dilemmas. Purpose: To present ways to understand and manage controversial boundary behaviors in professional settings. Objectives: Upon completion of the workshop, participants will: Understand the conceptual link between ethics and boundaries in professional practice; Recognize controversial boundary behaviors and implications for professional use of self; Identify ways to manage controversial boundaries in professional practice.
