Abstract

Marvin Shanks Remains is a unique project fusing music and cinematic narrative in a way that has not been previously attempted. The crew from I'm Sorry I Wasn't There Last Night returns only now we are all playing musical instruments as well as making a film. The song and the script were developed simultaneously by Jen Poland, Rusty Sheridan, and myself, with Jen taking primary songwriting responsibilities and Rusty as the scriptwriter. Once again I am co-Producer and Director of Photography. The shoot is scheduled for July 15, after which Maria will edit the video. We will then perform the song live with the video showing with Jen and myself on guitar, Rusty on drums and Maria on bass, after which we will have a panel discussion on the relationship between music and the moving image. So, though the format here does not allow for multiple categories, this represents both a conference presentation and a creative performance. After the performance at UFVA 2017, permanent music was recorded and added to the film, which will show again at UFVA 2018 in its finished form but has also been accepted to the following festivals: * Barebones International Film and Music Festival * Ausitin Spotlight Film Festival
