Short Description: Interprofessional collaboration between music therapists and speech-language pathologists has the potential to be of great value in supporting speech and language development in young children with ASD. Both creativity and clarity in communication are necessary elements in this relationship. The speaker, dually certified as a music therapist and a speech-language pathologist, will share information and discuss practices that music therapists can engage in to ensure the highest level of collaboration with their SLP colleagues. Learner Objectives: Participants will be able to: 1. Identify four professional practices that will support positive clinical outcomes and effective collaboration with speech-language professionals, when working with young children with ASD and their families. 2. Describe music-based interventions that address speech and/or language development with clarity when speaking to speech-language professionals. 3. State at least two recent developments and findings in speech-language pathology practice with young children with ASD and their families, including those resulting from telehealth efforts during the pandemic.
