Reaching More Students, Growing the Team

How can we empower more people to pursue, lead, and thrive in public service careers? Resources are finite, and while Gen Z and Millennials care deeply about their communities and solving societal problems, they lack trust in public institutions and knowledge about career opportunities. This panel explores strategies to expand our programmatic reach, with a focus on spanning boundaries. We discuss (a) related recruitment strategies; (b) our experiences with cross-disciplinary collaboration with business, criminology, communication, computer science, environmental science, political science, sociology, and urban studies programs; and (c) the utility of professional development programs, mentoring, and applied service projects.
