9,000 word article. A close reading of Colette's novella "La Lune de pluie" that examines how Colette's work developed in tandem with the rise of the popular romance novel. This reading focuses on the narrative structure as a commentary on popular romance that illustrates how Colette's fiction anticipates yet resists being categorized as popular romance.
