Abstract
This chapter concentrates on royal family narratives in Benin's sixteenth century and how they have echoed through the succeeding centuries. It expands upon some ideas in my upcoming Smithsonian book. The museum delayed the exhibition to 2024, but the catalogue should be published in 2023 in advance of the show. Invited and peer-reviewed. It has successfully gone through peer review with all minor revisions and photo permissions complete, and is in press.
