Abstract
This workshop will provide participants with a brief overview of supervision theory regarding beginning counselor development. The presenter will assist participants with grasping common themes of beginning counselor experience and ways supervisors can be mindful of addressing these concerns in supervision. Participants will learn about a specific supervisory intervention where the supervisor writes a humanistically-oriented letter to the supervisee between supervisory meetings. Qualitative results from a recent study investigating this intervention will be presented, and participants will have the opportunity to be introduced to using this supervisory modality in practice, including the do’s and don’ts of practice. Participants will also get the opportunity to write and receive feedback. Resources will be provided. Come prepared to engage, to have fun, to learn about ways of improving your supervisory practice, and to get and give feedback on your relating style with supervisees.
