Abstract
In fall, winter, and spring 2016-2017, at the request of the Chairman of the Board of the Adirondack Park Agency, I conducted an archaeological assessment of and feasibility study of the potential for restoring public access to the bed of the defunct Grasse River Railroad in the northwest Adirondack Mountains of Upstate New York. I developed a prospectus outlining the advantages and disadvantages of the possibility of reviving it as a trail for biking and hiking. I completed the report in Spring 2017. I submitted it to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the state oversight agency for such outdoor projects, and the village of Cranberry Lake, NY in late July, 2017 (25 and 27 July). This work represents a major additional undertaking of both scholarly and service nature. A copy is attached.
