Abstract
Chapter Learning Objectives Apply an interprofessional framework to a current epidemic through an activity designed to educate healthcare profession students about a complex situation. Identify the micro, meso, and macro levels of intervention in a complex case study. Reflect on the differing roles, responsibilities, and methods of members of the interprofessional health care team as direct care providers, consultants, and advocates including when and how to refer clients with substance abuse disorder to other team members and/or community agencies. Recognize the ethical and legal dilemmas that arise in interprofessional health care teams and propose solutions to these dilemmas, evaluating how satisfactory these solutions are when working with patients with substance abuse disorders. Design future research, educational, and practice initiatives based on the models outlined in this chapter.
