Abstract
In recent years, new technologies have ushered in a wave of change in teacher education—including the way student teachers receive feedback from their faculty supervisors. For instance, during the height of the pandemic, as schools moved to online learning to mitigate the spread of the virus, many colleges of education adopted GoReact--a video assessment software to observe and support candidates virtually during their student teaching experience. The convenience of GoReact has made it an essential and practical tool in teacher preparation, as it reduces travel costs and time. However, beyond the convenience of the tool, GoReact has the potential to reform the student teaching experience by helping schools break away from the traditional “corrective feedback” model, which is instructor-driven, to more transformative practices that are student-centered. This presentation presents five strategies for designing a more collaborative and transformative feedback process.
