Brief Bio:
Catherine Hansman, Ed.D., is Professor of Adult Learning and Development at Cleveland State University. She is beginning her 23rd year teaching at Cleveland State University and has over 30 years in teaching and administrative roles in higher education.  She has served as the program coordinator of the Adult Learning and Development (ALD) program for more than 11 years, and she currently is director of the Master of Education in Health Professions Education (MEHPE). Dr. Hansman teaches graduate courses in adult education and qualitative research in the Master of Education in Adult Learning and Development (ALD) and the PhD in Urban Education programs (specialization in Adult, Continuing & Higher Education) at Cleveland State University.

Dr. Hansman has written and edited books, book chapters and articles in refereed journals concerning her research interests of learning in adulthood, higher education, mentoring, context-based/social learning theories, communities of practice, health professions education, policies related to adult learners, qualitative research, history of adult education, and diversity and inclusion. She coedited the Adult Education Quarterly from 2014 to 2019.  She was awarded the Cyril O. Houle Emerging Scholar in Adult and Continuing Education Scholarship and was bestowed a Distinguished Faculty Award for Research by Cleveland State University. In 2016, Dr. Hansman was inducted into the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame.  Dr. Hansman is Past President of the American Association for Adult and Continuing Education (AAACE), and she also chaired the Commission of Professors of Adult Education (CPAE) and served on its executive committee for six years.

Cyril O. Houle Emerging Scholars in Adult and Continuing Education Scholarship (Kellogg Foundation supported grant through the University of Georgia) .  Award amount:  $40,000.00. A program for emerging scholars in Adult Education in Southern Africa, Latin America, and the USA. These research scholars represented the best 50 scholars in the field of adult education from the US, South Africa and Latin America.  Title of project:  Power and Learning in Mentoring Relationships.  Grant awarded April 2000. (Timeline:  April 2000 - April, 2002).
