Brief Bio:
Dr. Sheila M. Patterson  serves as Chairperson for the Department of Health and Human Performance at Cleveland State University.  She currently teaches graduate courses in community health online and coordinates the offerings of the CSU Journey to Wellness courses for employee health and wellness. She primarily teaches courses related to health behavior, research methods, professional ethics and food politics.  Dr. Patterson is the current Editor for The Health Educator: Journal of Eta Sigma Gamma and also serves on the national Board of Directors for Eta Sigma Gamma.  Her research interests include health promotion, food politics and professional preparation of health educators. Dr. Patterson has served on the CSU IRB Committee and is a former Faculty Athletic Representation for CSU Athletics/NCAA.  Prior to her employment at CSU, Dr. Patterson held the positions of Department Chairperson and Associate Provost and led a variety of academic affairs initiatives.   Dr. Patterson is a former Board Chair of the National Commission of Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC) and has served on a variety of national committees for the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE)and the American Association for Health Education (AAHE).  She has published her research in a variety of health education-related journals and has made over 40 presentations at the national and state levels.  Her current research areas include accreditation, worksite health promotion, health disparities and ethics. Her academic background is in community health; and she also has worked as a community health educator in a county health department.  Dr. Patterson has served as a consultant in the areas of needs assessment, survey research, program evaluation and related topics.
